I did a lot of research before I replaced my old blender - an ***** *******. I didn't want something too expensive, but didn't want a cheap model, either. I already own and love a KitchenAid mixer, and feel their name is synonymous with quality.
I've been a bit disappointed at the lack of affordable, quality blenders with glass pitchers, mostly-metal parts, but decided this blender would be a good compromise.
A couple points that I noticed in other people's reviews: The pitcher can be hard to remove from the base, there's a weird smell when operating the blender, and there seems to be black grease at the base.
First off, I did notice that it takes a firm twist to remove the pitcher from the base, but I think this is a good thing - it won't just tip over or come off while operating! You get used to it. Secondly, there seemed to be an odd smell the first few times I used it, but I equated it with "new car smell," and haven't had the issue since. As for the "grease" - I noticed some blackish liquid around the outside of the base after use a few times, and am wondering it it's lubricant for the blade. As long as it's not getting into my smoothies, I'm fine with it, and will keep an eye on it.
I had to get used to going back and forth between the different functions to get it to blend the way I wanted, but that's just because I was used to a different blender. For instance, I make smoothies every day with frozen fruit, but the fruit can get stuck if you keep it on one speed. I find it best to put it on #1 ("stir"), and toggle between pulsing, then higher speeds for a smooth finish. The 7-cup capacity is also a plus (while still fitting under my kitchen cabinets!), so I don't have to worry about making multiples batches when I make a recipe. The American-made company is also a plus for me! And I love the dark blue, which matches my mixer.
I can't speak to longevity of the mixer since I've only had it for a little while, and I do wonder if the preset buttons will wear out (as opposed to the simple toggle switch on my previous *****), but for now I'm pleased with my purchase.
