Stylish and sturdy.
I'd ordered another metal bed from Great Offer Stock years ago, and though I was apprehensive about buying furniture sight-unseen, it's been one of the best online purchases I ever made -- well-made, incredibly sturdy, looks great, and a fantastic bargain. So I hoped for similar with this bed and took the plunge.
PROS:
1. Sturdy. Metal headboard and footboard attach to metal rails with locking bolts. If you get this version of the bed (ie, make sure to buy the one that includes the "supports," or you'll end up with just a headboard and footboard), it's a true platform bed -- metal bars (I think maybe 8 total?) attach to the rails at about 6-inch intervals, there are two additional T-shaped bars to provide extra vertical support in the middle in addition to the bed legs, and the metal slats are covered in turn with flexible, particle board-type boards to create a smooth, flat surface for your mattress. A box spring is not necessary. Granted, I'm not that heavy (ie, not sure how it'd do with a couple of 250 pounders on it) but once put together and everything tightened, this bed doesn't wobble at all, and there's very little creaking.
2. Flexibility: Though a box spring isn't required, there are different levels at which the rails can be attached, so you can still use a box spring if you wish. It allows flexibility for the height of your bed -- whether you have an 8-inch memory foam mattress, a traditional coil with box spring that clocks in at over 14 inches, or anything in between, you can choose at which height you want the platform to sit in order for your bed to look the way you want.
3. Styling. This bed's styling is fairly unusual, but meshes well with different aesthetics. I got the brown color, and it's true to the picture. It would go well with a modern, transitional, or even some traditional styles -- I've paired it with a *********** bow-front bedroom suite from the 1950s, and it looks good.
4. Quality. The quality on this bed was good, though not excellent (see comments below re: finish). All requisite parts were included, all holes properly drilled, and the metal parts are substantially made. The instructions for assembly, while not exactly in "a monkey could do it" territory, were clear enough so that putting it together isn't frustrating. (NOTE: it says two people are required for assembly. Untrue.) All you need in addition to what's included is a phillips head screwdriver and a pair of locking pliers (helps with tightening the screws that have locking bolts.)
CONS:
1. Cost. Though it may look comparable to some of the bargain basement metal beds on Great Offer Stock at first glance if you saw the pricing for, say, just the headboard, by the time you buy the headboard & footboard, and additional "support" package to get the platform, this bed isn't cheap. You can find, here on Great Offer Stock, metal beds with every bit as sturdy construction and even better quality for half the price. So you're mainly paying for an aesthetic here.
2. Finish. The finish doesn't appear to be powder-coated, and I noticed that a slip of the screwdriver took the brown paint right off down to the grey metal. While you probably don't plan to be keying your bed, just note that scratching the finish may not be as hard to do as you'd wish. Also, some of the metal parts (that are unseen when assembled, such as those slipped inside the headboard to lock it to its legs) are unfinished machined metal -- the edges are sharp, and care should be taken when handling them.
TAKEAWAY: This is a sturdy bed with a unique aesthetic for a decent price. Quick delivery (less than * days) to your front door by Great Offer Stock is also a whole lot more convenient than dealing with your local furniture store. I was pleased with the purchase.
