  • Another Engineer Who Could Barely Install It
    Verified Purchase

The shade itself is fine. The instructions are bad and the brackets had to be bent before brute force and awkwardness finally got it installed. I went out and bought another shade locally so I could look at the directions in that box so I could mount the darn thing.

Easy to install -- seriously, maybe 5 minutes with an electric screwdriver. Blackout shades that really black out. Measure your window carefully, they come in sizes, every half-inch.

  • Wrong size, terrible installation
    Verified Purchase

These are EXACTLY the same width they say they are. Unfortunately, in order to mount them, you need an extra 1/4 in on each side for the mounting brackets that come with them. It would have been nice if they had incorporated that into their measurements (or if they would chance their mounting hardware so the edges can still block out the light). If you want them to fit, you need to order 1/2" smaller than your window. Installation of these blinds was miserable. There were NO instructions! They didn't fit in the window. It wasn't even clear how they were supposed to fit in the window! There weren't enough screws and were too many weird plastic parts. My husband and I both have graduate degrees in mechanical engineering and product design from a top university and we spent hours trying to figure this out to no avail... I had to return them, which is too bad, because they are nice quality other than the size/mounting.

  • Nice shades - beware of the sizes!
    Verified Purchase

Nice shades, as advertised, no complaints. EXCEPT for the size. The description doesn't warn you that they don't take off the usual 1/8th inch from your measurements like most other blinds/shades retailers. Thankfully, my windows are old and not a true 36 inches and I was able to take the end caps off of the blinds to get them to fit.

  • Absolutely PERFECT
    Verified Purchase

I'll try and make this quick...I purchased my fathers house while he moved up north. In the office...the sun came in so bright that he actually had aluminium foil on the window and then a cheap blind in front of it to keep the sun out. I wanted to be able to use the window when the sun was not blazing though....and this blind turned out to be absolutely perfect. I have some so called "Black out" curtains in my bedroom that do NOT blackout the sun. This blind does. I really like this blind. You simply use your hand to lightly lift up on the blind to raise it...and lower it. Doesn't take much pressure...doesn't make much of a sound. Super super easy to install. No taxes...shipping was quick...and right to my door. Perfect. Couldn't hardly ask for more.

  • Really does darken the room
    Verified Purchase

I ordered two of these for a toddler's bedroom plus another for a guest bedroom.I have used actual "blackout" curtains in the past and although these are definitely not "blackout" by definition, they significantly darken the room and are much better than a previous set of non-blackout cellular shades I had purchased. The color is really not a bright white. Instead it is at the cool end of the white spectrum and appears almost silver or gray. I did not find this to be a problem because I am not using bright white in the drapery panels flanking these windows and the walls are a cool shade of a pale sage greenish-gray color so they go very nicely. The plastic handle that comes with these cheapens the overall look, but it is of course optional to install since you can raise or lower them just by gently pushing or pulling on the base. These were extremely easy to install and the price was great! I am ordering another one for a bathroom.

  • Good value for the money
    Verified Purchase

We bought these blinds for our bedroom, which faces west. The size is exactly as advertised. The fabric of the blinds themselves is very similar to higher-priced brands, and the metallic lining does an excellent job of blocking the light. I took a star off because they were a little difficult to install (there is a "right side" to face out although the directions don't say so. The flat side needs to face the back of the clips.) The clips to install the blinds are also slightly less substantial than more expensive brands, and the metal clip part is harder to disengage if you need to move them (or if you put them up wrong initially). But I would recommend them because the price is REALLY GOOD.

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

"We have Arlo Cordless Cellular Shade TDBU 3/8" single cell blind. The directions were not included. Can you give us instructions on how to mount the shade? Thank you"

  • Q:

"How deep is the actual shade? 1 inch? more? less?"

    • A:

Top housing is 2 inches shade itself is 1 3/4 inches.

  • Q:

"How long do they take to ship"

    • A:

My memory is that it was extremely quick. I believe I ordered early in the week and had them by Friday, making a weekend installation a piece of cake!

    • A:

They were very quick in shipping and best price compared to in store pricing

    • A:

I made the order on 12/2/2016. They were shipped on 12/5/2016. They were delivered to my door on 12/8/2016. So from ordering to delivery, that was 6 days.

  • Q:

"I have a 139.5 window. If I get 2 69" will it for or is the outside dimensions of the hardware longer than the 69"?"

    • A:

we used 34.5 for 35 inch windows so only .25 on each side if you are leaving 1.5 inches I would think you would be okay.

  • Q:

"Does the length take the entire blind (including mount/blind top) in account when mounting inside window? I have a 61in length and am wondering if the 60in would still work or best to go with the 72. Thanks "

    • A:

I would get the 72". They have a lot of spring to them and doubt they would even be 60". They want to rollback up, so you would constantly be pulling them down to cover the whole window.

    • A:

I agree. You should order the 72 inch length. I ordered the 60 inch length and it springs back to 54inches. Works fine for my windows since I only have a 45 inch length window. However, it would not be long enough for yours.

    • A:

I would get the longer. They do pull up some past their full length.

    • A:

I have the 72" on all my windows and it insures the whole length is covered, since you pull them to the desired stopping point it is not a problem

    • A:

These blinds keep out so much heat (and cold), I find it is best to be able to pull it lower than the window casing.

    • A:

If you want to be able to completely cover the window, I'd get the longer size. If you don't mind having an inch or so open at the bottom, the shorter one will work but it might stress the shade to try to pull it completely down to it's fullest length.

  • Q:

"Are there any cellular honeycomb shades in white in Blackout that are available longer than 72". For instance 82"-84"?"

    • A:

The longest length we have in stock is an 82-inch length which can be found here: /Honeycomb-White-Cell-Blackout-Cordless-Cellular-Shades,82-Inches,/k,blinds-length,/results.html

  • Q:

"I have a 28 inch wide by 41 inch length for 3 windows. Your honey comb white block out shade is 28.5 inch width by 42 inch. long . Length is fine but not sure what to do with the extra 1/2 inch on the width. Suggestions? "

    • A:

Well, if the blind is 1/2 inch larger than the window, then that's going to be a problem. The blinds fit fairly tight in the space. However, if you wouldn't mind attaching the blind on the outside of the window frame, then it wouldn't matter.

  • Q:

"What is depth of mounting header? My windows are 1.25 inch deep, will the hardware for header fit for inside mount?"

    • A:

This can be mounted in as little as 0.75 inch. The depth required for a flush mount is about 2 inches.

  • Q:

"I love these blinds, but my windows are wide & short. Looking to get these for my two bedroom windows that are 46"W x 34"H & 58"W x 34"H. It seems like once the width gets above 40" the shortest length available is 72". Do these even come in these widths in shorter lengths? "

    • A:

You can see the sizes we have available by using the options drop down menu. Currently the 40-inch blinds are only available in a 60 and 72 inch length.

  • Q:

"Hi! The first number and the second number: which one is the width and which one is the height (1st x 2nd)? Please clarify. Thanks"

    • A:

The first number is the width, the second is the length.

    • A:

The first is the width and the second is the height, so a 30 x 70 would be 30 inches wide by 70 inches tall.

    • A:

The first number is the width and the second number is the length. This is an excellent purchase. 2nd round of these blinds. A set for the sun room and then for the living room!

  • Q:

"I have a 31.5 by 61 window. What size option do you think would be best for me? I see that some get cut off at 60 inches. Is there any wiggle room length-wise? I've read plenty about width."

    • A:

No, I do not recommend any of our shades for that size as there will not be enough room if you are doing an inside mount. If you want to go bigger and mount outside of the window frame, then yes, you could choose a shade that is about 2-6 inches bigger. For example, if you outside mount, a good size could be 40”x72” depending upon obstructions and wall space around the window.

  • Q:

"Can these be mounted outside mounted?"

    • A:

Yes these can be outside mounted. I mounted them directly on the trim around our windows, since it is nothing special. I ended up ordering another set for our master bedroom since they worked so well in our guest room, room darkening with just a line of getting through at the bottom of the shade. Easy installation.

  • Q:

"How deep are the black out white cellular shades? "

    • A:

So the first bedroom I placed these in overlooks the street, so plenty of streetlight to battle. Without curtains and these blinds down the room was pitch black, which was much darker than I had expected. I didn't have any issue with sizes.

    • A:

I have them outside mount and they extend 2 inches from wall

    • A:

The header alone measures 1 13/16 from front edge to back edge.

  • Q:

"Quite a few people have complained about the size and how you should account for the 1/8th inch of bracket spacing, but there is no option that I see to order them in any other size than what is offered in the drop down list. Should I just not order them from Great Offer Stock to be free of that concern? Or does someone have info on how to order them with custom sizing?"

    • A:

Just remember this, the "size" stated on the item listing, is the "actual" size of the shades. The most important dimension is width, so if buy one that is 31.5 inches wide, then it is 31.5 inches wide. Windows come in various sizes, and can vary depending how it was installed and trimmed out. Measure the actual width at top, middle, and bottom and use the lowest value (narrowest) as reference. For example, say you measured it to be 47.5 inches wide at the narrowest, then you need to order shades that are slightly shorter than that so that it has room to move. A safe bet is to leave at least 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch gap on each side, so for a 47.5 inch wide window, you probably want something that is 47.0" to 47-1/4 inches wide. Also, keep in mind that you can cut these shades to custom fit your window if you have a size that isn't listed, just pick something that is about the length you want but a little bit wider. Then you can just cut these to your desired width with a mitre saw. If the above measuring and cutting seems daunting, then you should consider hiring a contractor and have that person recommend what sizes to get.

  • Q:

"Can anyone tell me what the depth measurement is on these? My frame is only inset about an inch so I've been looking for a skinny window option."

    • A:

They are quite narrow. We hung them close to the window. They are inset more than 1/2 on our window reveal. They might be slightly wider than 1/2 inch, but not much more.

    • A:

      About 2.5 inches

  • Q:

"How far does the shade hang when fully pulled up?"

    • A:

On mine 6-8 inches. I have a small window in the laundry room. Different sizes may vary.

    • A:

About 2" from where you install when fully open or up. Very little and they look great. We have purchased these for 4 homes now. Love them

    • A:

      about 6 inhes

    • A:

      About 3 1/4 inches.

    • A:

from the top of the head rail to the bottom edge of bottom rail it is 3 1/2" my shades are 72" long

    • A:

Mine is 3 inches also from top of shade to bottom

    • A:

Only 3-4 inches I think. Love these shades

    • A:

They take up a lot less space than most blinds when fully closed off the window. Lovely, since it gives more of the window exposed for more light.

  • Q:

"If I have a double window in the same frame. They each open separately. Can I put two shades in the one space and mount under the top frame? I would like two so I can open one side at a time?"

    • A:

Yes. I mounted mine on the top of the frame. They popped right on and so there would be no reason as far as I'm concerned not to be able to hang two side by side. They are VERY good quality and sturdy. The move up and down accordion styled with ease - never crooked. I'm very pleased with mine. And if it turns out for some reason you cannot mount them as you wish, Great Offer Stock is fabulous in terms of customer service. Just return. Good luck!

    • A:

Yes you could mount, however you would have 1/2 inch gap between the two shades.

  • Q:

"Can these be mounted inside window frame on top not on sides? I have to order 2 and cannot mount corner to corner. but mount on top? nothing really says it can be done like that?"

    • A:

Yes, brackets mount on the inside top. You can see in the first picture that one has three brackets.

  • Q:

"The length I need is 62". Can these be shorten if I purchase the 72" length?"

    • A:

We do not recommend shortening these blinds.

    • A:

Just don't pull them down all the way.

"Are you going to get more 26.5 x 60 shades? "

    • A:

Unfortunately we don't know when we will be getting more of the 26.5 x 60 shades. We apologize for any inconvenience we might have caused.
