This is a very versatile machine! I create writing journals, cooking journals, and planners and needed a machine that not only can cut through thick chipboard (1.43mm) to create decorative windows but that could also cut larger projects. I have books that are 10-inches X 10-inches so I needed something with more strength than those that can only cut through paper or thin cardstock as well as offer me a large enough area to cut my wider book covers. I commonly use 1.43mm chipboard. The Big Shot Pro cuts through this thick chipboard like butter using the dies. Absolutely love this machine! As far as using the thinlit dies, sizzlits and the like, there are the adapters you can get for this machine to cut those as well. Perfect for embellishments for the books I'm making. All in all, it can pretty much do anything and can use all dies.

I started with the Cricut Cuttlebug, then went to the bigger Spellbinders Grand Calibur. After it broke, I went with this heavy duty Sizzix Big Shot Pro and am I glad I did! I have a card business; this machine is sturdy metal and handles the daily work load beautifully. After making more than 1000 cards, it's still going strong! I love that it takes 12 x 12 inch paper. The steel rule dies work flawlessly as do the thinlits. If I have very small pieces to cut, I simply top the tiny die with a small 2.5 x 5 inch cutting pad. I'm so glad this machine is part of my craft equipment.

I love this machine! It cuts perfectly every time. It saves me so much time and effort. Very well constructed and much easier to use than I thought it would be. I was very impressed with the snow flakes that I made for Christmas. I cut them out of drink cans. It cut through the metal like a breeze!! Can’t wait to get back to quilting, so I can cut some masks and strips for binding

My friend and I just finished making 25 Christmas sleighs for table favors. We filled the sleighs with peppermint pillows and a foil covered santa. They were adorable! The guests loved them and took them home to add to their gingerbread house displays or to hang on their trees. I was suppose to belearning how to use the machine. Ha! My friend was having so much fun, I never got a turn! I wished the machine had a motor rather than a crank. I have arthritis and it can be painful. Machine is HEAVY! I do not consider it portable. I did think I was missing the locking washer to complete the handle assemble. It was in the packaging, but it is tiny! Can't wait to try cutting out 18" doll clothes.

The materials the machine can cut depends on the dies you are using in the machine. Any of the Sizzix brand Bigz line or Originals will cut through anything you can cut with a pair of scissors. Any of the Sizzix brand Thinlits and Framelits will cut through a variety of thin materials from light cardstock, to thin metals.
