This is my first serger and at first the threading guide was a little intimidating. But, after watching the video that was supplied (3 times) I was success at threading my serger. I can't believe that a rolled hem on a scarf took only minutes. It would have taken me 3 hours with cramped fingers on my old machine. I love this and cant wait to find more sewing projects.
I have used a sewing machine for 20+ years and had never used a serger. I bought this Singer ProFinish Serger based on the positive reviews online. It is just as easy to use as everyone had said! I had a little trouble with it when I took out the factory installed threads and put in my own colors. There was quiet a panic and some frustrations of wonky needle stitches. I rethreaded several times but couldn't solve the problem. No matter what tension setting I used, it was still loose. I knew I had it threaded correctly and began googling for a solution. I found one forum where a woman posted that she had taken a class for using her machine and the instructor had said to floss the threads into the tension wheels. Sure enough, this was my problem! I had not properly inserted/flossed the thread into the tension wheel. It is different from my sewing machine where you just run the thread through and it catches it. Now that I have this bit of information, I have serged several items and changed threads several times with ease. This is a great machine at a great price! I would recommend this serger to anyone looking to buy a quality machine without spending a ton of money.
This was my first serger, having never even sewn on one before, so I was very nervous about this purchase. This one had good reviews and a good price and I am not disappointed! It WAS intimidating at first glance! But I took the time to watch the video, which is very helpful, especially for threading (but also a little scary since it sounds complicated). The machine arrived already threaded and I probably could have just started serging immediately, but I mistakenly thought the threads were tangled or "off," so I rethreaded them all following the book. That was actually a good thing because I gained some confidence and got familiar with the machine. The machine does have a few more plastic parts than what I would like, but I assume this is par for the price. It runs wells and is quieter than I expected, so so far so good, I'm pleased with this purchase.
I have never owned a serger but used several. This is a great little machine. Light, quiet and the DVD makes the threading & tension a breeze to manage. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who loves to sew & have a nice finished project.. I have been using it daily since I got it ..and I am loving it !!!
This is a very simple serger. It can do 3- or 4-thread edges, for a total of 6 different stitches. Stitch width can make 3.5 mm or 5.7 mm widths (by changing needle position) or 3.0 mm to 6.7 mm (single-needle, using the adjustment knob). This is all you would need for almost any edge-finishing job. As noted in other reviews, it arrives pre-threaded and ready to sew. If you've never served before, you may want to practice with it right out of the box. But you will also want to watch the DVD and read the manual. Then practice threading it, which is always the most frustrating part of using a serger. Don't try to thread the needle without the included tweezers... that's just the way it is with almost every serving machine out there. I bought this to replace my very expensive ***** serger, which could do a ton more than this machine. However, it was finicky and the timing needed repair every few years-- and the repair cost as much as this nice machine! I realized that I did not need all the bells and whistles of the *****. This is a nice, functional and sturdy machine. I believe it will be a good investment.
Through no fault of Overstorck or Singer, 1st one arrived damaged. As always, exchange was easy. 2nd unit was AWESOME -- arrived threaded & immediately able to use right out of the box. Can't believe I waited this long to get a serger! Amazingly easy to learn. I am in that no man's land where Petite is a little too short and regular is too long. This will pay for itself in no time now that I can easily shorten my pants/skirts & even shirts instead of paying a tailor. Results look very professional. Well worth the money.
In my opinion, Singer makes the best servers! I started with a Singer U2 34 (4 spool), tried other brands, but came back to Singer. The plastic construction is lighter weight than my old Singer, but it still sports the free arm and easy threading. The stitch quality is consistent even after changing thread colors, and there are many optional feet available (i.e. elastic, blind hem, beading, shirring, cording and yarn application) that increase the functionality of this serger and make it a winner. Love my Singer serger.
Never knew how much I'd rely on this very affordable and relatively easy to use serger. They're all a little complicated, but it was a nice touch to have it threaded in different colors when it arrived, making it easier to understand and follow the threading of each needle. Decent instruction video, just wish it had included a few pointers on using different stitches. Still, an excellent deal for the price I paid on Overstock- that made me spring for it!
I needed to raplace my serger that had lasted me for dedades. After comparing prices both on line and in stores, I found it to be a good price for a good product. It is easier to use and the DVD is a nice feature to understand how to use the serger.
I am a very experienced in sewing but have never used a serger. This machine and it's instructions make it easy.
This is my second serger. The first was also a singer and I loved it and got great use from it. This machine looks solid, but the tension is much more difficult to dial in than my previous machine. It's still not bad for the price, but if I had it to buy over, I'd probably buy a different machine.
I was nervous, I'd never owned a serger before, but I'm working on some holiday gifts and knew it was what was needed. The serger came quickly and was ready to go right out of the box. It was pre-threaded and everything. Awesome. Yes, it comes with a video about how to thread it and how to take care of it and make adjustments, but it was so great to just be able to take it out of the box and give it a go right away. Quality products from Singer, quality service from
I love it! It gives the items I make such a professional seam and finish.
I was very determined to get this serger up and running once it arrived and after watching the DVD and messing with the tension for a few hours I was good to go. For the price, it's an excellent machine! But give yourself some time to get to know the machine and read the manual... when you have it figured out it will make your life (and sewing projects) easier.
singer is known for craftsmanship and quality and this machine is no exception. This overclock feature is very helpful for me when sewing knits.
Threading this serger can be a little tricky, just takes some practice. Otherwise this has been a great first serger. I love the rolled hem saves me so much time when I'm making dresses for my daughter.
Initially thought it would be hard to use but it came with color coded threads already threaded, just opened it up and checked how the different threads are threaded, color coded inside too corresponding with the thread. Done several projects already, saved a lot time preparing the pieces.
I love it being about to go from sewing to roll hem and not having to switch the plate.
She really enjoy this serger and have been sewing ever since! Can't go wrong with a Singer!
Really like the serger. Its a great addition to my sewing machine. I had to watch Youtube videos to thread it....that's the only hard part.
