This handmade creation is offered in partnership with NOVICA, in association with National Geographic.Five tiers of shirred crinkle cotton create a skirt of casual elegance. Designed by India's Shashi Sehgal, the black maxi-skirt with its elasticized waist can also do double duty as a strapless sundress.

Story Behind the Art:
'My name is Shashi Sehgai. I was born in Assam in 1950. I started my own apparel line in 1992. I was always fascinated with colors so I started making my own formulas and designs. I am proud to mention that I have transferred my knowledge to many interns, NGO students and family friends. We also create home furnishings and for both, we use fabrics that are easily sourced.'
